Bespoke Tapestry Stand for a Grayson Perry
We were commissioned to build this tapestry stand for Grayson Perry’s Death of a Working Hero as part of a contemporary art exhibition at Salisbury Cathedral.
Given the context for the piece, the design of this bespoke tapestry stand required careful consideration.
We used dark stained Ash poles with antique Brass finials and hardware to echo the trade union marching banners that the piece was inspired by.
The base of the tapestry stand was built from solid Ash to suit the existing joinery within the Cathedral. The curved supports are elliptical, mirroring the arches and buttresses that surround it.
The result is a balanced and elegant tapestry stand that is sympathetic to the context of the environment it sits within and the Art that it holds.
