Bespoke easel for Salisbury Cathedral

bespoke easel with painting

As part of their contemporary art exhibition in 2020, Salisbury Cathedral commissioned us to produce this bespoke display easel to hold Craigie Aitchison’s Crucifixion 8.

We designed the easel to be sympathetic to its surroundings whilst also supporting the very large canvas and frame at just the right viewing angle - beauty and functionality working in tandem.

We built the easel in solid Ash using traditional joinery methods that sit beautifully within the cathedral.

Leather stays and antique brass hardware give the easel just enough detail to make it feel truly special without taking anything away from the piece that it holds.
